The new head of a large Integrated Project Team in the Defence Logistic Organisation with an annual budget of around £100M needed to give direction to his team and bring them together with a shared vision. Ian was brought in to help the IPT through the process of developing a vision and a mission, then to develop realistic objectives and tasks and finally to cement this into their routine working practice with a written plan and a Balanced Scorecard reporting framework.

The Tank Systems Support Integrated Project Team is tasked with the management of the MOD's entire fleet of heavy armoured vehicles and consists of some124 staff. The Team Leader, Colonel Ian Simpson was particularly keen tofocus the efforts of his whole team by means of a clear plan of action and to promotea strong team spirit.

Colonel Ian SimpsonThe process involved several workshops with all section leaders and other key staff, plus a few smaller meetings to focus on particular issues and one-to-one interviews. The final deliverables included the Business Planplus a working balanced scorecard reporting tool in Microsoft Excel, in addition to the intangible deliverable of a team committed to its new business plan and with a shared vision to guide them.
